“Resilience is the ability to bounce back after a distressing event.”
For Iliganons those words spoken by Dr. Imelu Mordeno during the TEDxMSUIIT last 27th of November 2015 holds true to its meaning. Like every citizens, and any other city in Mindanao and in the whole country, we hold close to our hearts the promise for better days, and for brighter future not only for ourselves but the generations forthcoming.
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission — “ideas worth spreading” supporting independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. It’s an organized event to spark and share ideas, and to create a movement of change through realizations.
A university-led and locally-organized event, TEDxMSUIIT, celebrates diversity of ideas and sharing of the Mindanao experience. It became the platform to share the idea that Mindanao has been true to its claim to be the Land of Promise — something that we as Mindanaons may have lost sight of, if not forgotten.
It was done through six talks on various topics to be delivered by speakers deemed to embody the Mindanaoan:
- Prof. German Gervacio, The Promise of Literature
- Dr. Jinky Bornales, The Promise of Science
- Mayor Jun Pacalioga, The Promise of the Soil
- Salima Saway-Agraan, The Promise of Art
- Sittie Djalia Turabin-Hataman, The Promise Choice
- Dr. Imelu Mordeno, The Promise of Resilience
